Description[]

Added during update Beta v.1.7.12, Dogs are the first companion animal in the game.

During the Chinese New Year 2018 event, Lonely Elder's dog was the first dog seen in the game, which lead you to the Silent abode via dog footprints.

During the Christmas 2018 event, Husky was shown in Snowy Race Track, and later it was added in the game.

Corgi, Rottweiler and Bulldog are the new breeds to be added in game in future updates.

Obtaining[]

Player-owned Dogs in the game are only found as Puppies, never as full-grown adults. The first puppies spawn during the early Survivor's path quests, after that they can spawn in many locations, in particular Crooked Creek Farm (guaranteed), Airdrop and resource zones (randomly). They can also be purchased from the Dealer at great expense in materials and items or in the in-app store.

(Tip: If you don't get the puppy during the Airdrop event, leave the location, go to a different one close by and return, then the puppy may spawn. Only repeat this 2-3 times at each event, it works far from always.)

You need to build a Dog Crate to house the Dog. After placing it, you will need to feed your dogs with Raw Meat, Raw Turkey or Dry Food. Your dogs' Traits only have effect and the dogs grow when there is any food in the Dog Crate.

Upon maturation to adulthood, the Dog will also show its Rank (I - IV) and generate its skill Traits. With each rank, the Dog will have an equal number of Traits, whether common, rare, or extremely rare. Dogs can never die, but they can be released via "let go" button. The True Friend can become tired. If it happens, the tiredness is removed at the moment you come back home or when you use a Treat for dogs.

Feeding[]

Adult Dogs eat the same food at the same rate as Puppies, including:

  • Raw Meat from Deer, Foxes, wolves - keep one dog fed for 3+ hrs
  • Raw Turkey from Wild Turkey - keep one dog fed for 15+ hrs
  • Dry Food - keep one dog fed for 15+ hrs and increases the chance of getting a high rank when crossbreeding
  • Treat for Dogs - used only for dogs with trait True Friend, removes tiredness

When food in the Dog Crate's bowl runs out, they don't die or run away, but you'll see a message in the Kennel Management menu: "No food: dogs are inactive, puppies aren't growing." Without food, dogs that have the trait "True Friend" cannot go with you.

Ranks[]

There are four rank levels for Adult Dogs: I, II, III, IV. A Dog gets a skill trait per every rank. New puppies grow up into rank I adult dog. Elite puppies grow up into rank III adult dog.

You can breed dogs of the same rank. While two Rank I parents will produce a Rank II puppy, the odds of getting a puppy of higher rank than the parents decreases as the ranks increase. (See Tips and Tricks, below.)

Traits[]

There are 9 possible skills or Traits for Shepherds, 11 for Corgis, and 13 for Rottweilers. These buffs are active when the Dog(s) possessing them are assigned to the "Walking on Base" slots (max. 3) in the Dog Crate management menu. The buffs of a fourth Dog can be active when a Rank IV Dog with the True Friend Trait is assigned to the "With you" slot.

These Traits will supply buffs at a noted percentage that varies by individual and rank. The Traits are selected from the trait pool in each rank. You cannot get a Rank III dog with three careful traits since the careful trait only exists in the Rank I and II pool. The third trait would be one out of the Rank III pool. (Note: Of course there is an exception for every rule, so it is technically possible to have Rank III dog with three Careful traits, since a dog inheriting traits will always pick a new trait from Rank I pool).

When food in the Dog Crate's bowl runs out, you see this message in the Kennel Management menu: "No food: dogs are inactive, puppies aren't growing." Until food is added again, any buffs supplied by equipped Dogs are paused.

Very Rare Traits[]

    • Only Dogs with this trait can be "equipped" to be taken with you in the Kennel Management menu at the Dog Crate.
    • True Friend dogs can do a maximum of 1750 HP of damage (70 bites).
    • This is the skill needed for accessing the doggy doors in Bunker Alfa (lobby and Floor 4).
  • LUCKY: Earns one gold coin per day (CORGIS ONLY)

Breeding[]

The male and female dogs you choose to breed at the Dog Crate must be of equal rank, and the puppy produced will be of equal or higher rank.

Breeding

Before choosing to "Crossbreed," you have the option to "Inherit traits" to ensure the parent passes their specific traits to the offspring. When you breed a Puppy from a Dog with a rare color/markings, you have the option to keep that appearance for the Puppy.

When the dog inherits any traits, the next trait is always chosen from rank I traits (possible bug). Therefore it's impossible to get a True Friend if the dog inherited rank III traits. However it's possible to breed e. g. a Hunter +20% this way.

(Note: After crossbreeding you'll get a puppy but its parents will run away. It is also impossible to crossbreed different races)

Emotes[]

In update Beta v.1.8.1, emotes for dog interaction were added, only for use with True Friend dogs.

True Friend emotes

These include:

  • Sit
  • Roll over
  • Bark

Tips and Tricks[]

Jugando Con Fuerza (JCF) created a really detailed assessment of the best strategy for getting high-rank dogs.

This is the biggest takeaway (but do watch and give credit where due):

JCF Stats and Strats

via Jugando Con Fuerza

Also via JCF (edited for grammar and clarity/format):

  • When you breed a pair of Rank I dogs...100% chance their puppy will be a Rank II dog.
  • When you breed a pair of Rank II dogs...60% chance their puppy will be a Rank III dog (without Dry Food buff).
  • When you breed a pair of Rank III dogs...25 - 30% chance of getting a Rank IV dog (without Dry Food buff).
  • When you breed a pair of Rank IV dogs...5 - 10% chance you'll get a dog with the True Friend trait.

This means on average (depending on your luck) you will need to breed 360 to 940 Rank I puppies to get one dog with the True Friend trait.

WickedSick1 comments:

Note #1: JCF's info is not accurate, e. g. the True Friend trait chance is actually way closer to 5% than 10%. I don't know how many dogs JCF bred, but my sample is over 1000 dogs.

Note# 2: You don't need rank IV dogs in order to get the True Friend trait. The chance to get the True Friend trait appllies to breeding a pair of Rank III dogs as well, if the dog levels-up to Rank IV. Therefore there is approximately 2% chance to get the Rank IV dog with the True Friend trait when breeding a pair of rank III dogs. However your dog will NEVER get the True Friend trait if you let him inherit any traits. When the dog who inherited any traits level-up, the new rank trait is not picked from the respective rank, but always from Rank I traits.

Note #3: Considering the puppies that failed to level-up can be bred again and assuming you'll have equal number of both genders, taking the rough probabilities of 60% and 30% to level-up, the number of rank I puppies needed to breed the True Friend is actually lower, on average it's 462.
